Home Depot was founded in 1978.
The way I heard it, as soon as it had a total of 25 stores, the co-founders convened a meeting for all managers to discuss where it had been, where it was, and where it was headed in months and years to come.
Bernie Marcus was one of the co-founders and shared a brilliant insight:
“When someone comes through the door and asks about a 3/16th inch drill, he’s really not buying a drill bit. He’s buying a 3/16th inch hole .”
You probably know what’s in your wallet or purse.
Do you really know what your core business is? Home Depot does.
Think about that very carefully.
