What most people don’t understand about goals and deadlines

According to Anthony Robbins, “People tend to overestimate what they can achieve in a year, but underestimate what they can achieve in a decade.”

I agree.

Some goals take much longer to achieve than do others.

Warren Buffett observes: ” No matter how great the talent or effort, some things just take time: you can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.”

Some people need more time to achieve a goal than do others. Fair enough.

My own take on all this is that people often fail to focus on the right goal. Ted Levitt reminds us that people do not buy quarter-inch nails; rather, quarter-inch holes.

I agree, but then what after the holes are drilled?

It usually takes some time and focused attention to decide what to do and when to do it.

With all due respect to seeing the so-called BIG Picture, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe offers this reminder: “God is in the details.”
