The One Truth: A book review by Bob Morris

The One Truth: Elevate Your Mind, Unlock Your Power, Heal Your Soul
Jon Gordon
Wiley (June 2023)

A truth? Reasonable. THE truth? Presumptuous.

I agree with Jon Gordon that valuable dimensions of truth can be revealed during earnest efforts to

o “understand where your negative thoughts are coming from”
o eliminate or at least manage doubt, distortion, discouragement, distraction, and division
o “see negative thoughts for what they are — lies — and neutralize them when you stop believing them and speak truth to them”
o “focus on what matters most”
o and embrace love, “reminding yourself that love is more powerful than fear and you are more powerful when love, not fear,is your focus and driving force.”

Gordon asserts that the One Truth “is that our state of mind, the thoughts we think, the words we say, the life we live, and the power we have and everything we experience are ultimately influenced by oneness and separateness.” In one of his first letters to Corinth, Saint Paul discusses his faith in “many parts, one body.” In essence, articles of any faith are opinions, indeed convictions. Saint Paul had his, Gordon has his, I have mine, and those who read this book will have theirs.

I commend Jon Gordon for an articulate explanation of how, in his opinion, almost anyone can “elevate their mind, unlock their power, and heal their soul.” I have no doubt that this book will help many people to do so.

That said, all of us would be well-advised to keep Voltaire’s advice in mind: “Cherish those who seek the truth but beware of those who find it.”
