Mind Magic: A Book Review by Bob Morris

Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything
James R. Doty

How to harness your brain’s power to make your intention a reality

According to James R. Doty, “manifesting is defining an intention such that it gets embedded into your subconscious, which functions below the level of consciousness. By doing so, we activate brain networks associated with goal orientation that make an intention important, salient, or noteworthy…Our intention now guides our life. By using our inner power to tap the vast resources of our own brain, we gradually [repeat, GRADUALLY] decrease the impact of our external environment and begin living from our deepest intentions…You simply must believe that the source of your well-being and success is nothing other than the power of your own mind.” (Pages ix-x)

Doty can’t harness your brain’s power to make your intention a reality. Only you can do that but he can help. He provides an abundance of information, insights, and counsel in this book that can guide and inform your efforts  to achieve several objectives.

More specifically, Doty explains HOW TO

o Reclaim your power to focus your mind (See Pages 74-76)
o Clarify what you truly want (91-95)
o Remove the obstacles in your mind (116-119 and 124-130)
o Embed the intention in your subconscious (153-156)
o Pursue your goal passionately (167-168 and 174-176)
o Release expectations and open to magic (196-201)

Remember: “Manifesting is essentially the process of intentionally bedding the thoughts and images of the life we desire into our subconscious…The way our goals get embedded is through a process called [begin italics] value tagging [end italics], the brain’s way of deciding what is significant enough to be imprinted at the deepest level of the subconscious…Visualization works because, amazingly, the brain does not distinguish between an actual physical experience and one that is intensely imagined.” (Page xv)

In “Conclusion: The Journey Home,” James R. Doty provides a comprehensive program with a blueprint — a game plan, an operations manual — to master manifestation.  It establishes an on-going, never-ending process of personal growth and professional development. It will take at least six weeks to complete but it could last longer. You may need to take a time-out or two along the way. Almost everything you need to know is in the book.  You provide the WHAT and Doty provides the HOW.

These are among his concluding thoughts: “I hope that these techniques that have helped me so much are of benefit to you, and that they bring you the safety, peace, connection, and resources you need to take care of yourself, to open your heart, and to allow your own mind to manifest its magic.”

Here are two suggestions while you are reading Mind Magic: First, highlight key passages Also,  perhaps in a lined notebook kept near-at- hand, record your comments, questions, action steps (preferably with deadlines), page references, and lessons you have learned as well as your responses to key points posed within the narrative. Also record your responses to specific or major issues addressed, especially those in the thirteen PRACTICES.

These two simple tactics — highlighting and documenting — will facilitate, indeed expedite frequent reviews of key material later.
