In 1972 during the presidential primary campaigns, a reporter asked a little old lady in New Hampshire whom she was going to vote for. Her reply? “I never vote. It only encourages them!”

However, after carefully considering the current candidates, I have decided to vote for Forrest Gump. Here are a few reasons.

1. He overcame serious physical handicaps to become an All-American football player on a University of Alabama national championship football team, coached by Paul (“Bear”) Bryant.

2. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

3. Although a millionaire, he continues to live in the family home.

4. He married his childhood sweetheart. After her death, he has been a devoted single parent to his son, also named Forrest.

5. He bears a striking resemblance to Tom Hanks.
