Over several decades, I have helped dozens (hundreds?) of companies to set up a business book club.
Here are the essentials:
1. Someone to focus on logistics.
2. Someone to lead the discussion.
3. Somewhere to meet, preferably around a table with a dry board nearby.
The primary purpose is to accelerate the personal growth and professional development of its participants. Also, to nourish their relationships with colleagues.
A business book club usually meets once a month, often during the lunch hour, and sessions last about 60 minutes.
I recommend advanced, assigned reading of a volume that takes about an hour to read.
For example, listed in alpha order of authors:
Six Thinking Hats
Edward de Bono
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable
Patrick Lencioni
Silos, Politics and Turf Wars: A Leadership Fable About Destroying the Barriers That Turn Colleagues Into Competitors
Patrick Lencioni
Maestro: A Surprising Story About Leading by Listening
Roger Nierenberg
A Kick in the Seat of the Pants: Using Your Explorer, Artist, Judge, and Warrior to Be More Creative
