Beware of business assumptions and address business questions

Q

Randy Mayeux recently blogged about the importance of business assumptions.

My own experience suggests that, more often than not, assumptions are dangerous and should be avoided.

Instead, the healthiest organizations are led by people — at all levels and in all areas — who continuously ask the right questions. Here are four:

o Who is our customer?

o What is our core business?

o How can we add greater value to our customers?

o How can we help them add greater value to their customers?

Albert Einstein asked the same questions on his final examinations at Princeton. Why? “Every year, the answers are different.”

The same is true of business questions.
