Rosabeth Moss Kanter on telling the right compelling story

In Think Outside the Building, Rosabeth Moss Kanter explains how advanced leaders can change the world one smart innovation at a time.

Some of her most valuable ideas focus on how and why telling the right compelling story is so important to developing innovative ideas. That is, “a narrative that inspires and illuminates through a big vision for repairing the world based on a new frame for history that creates a different path to the future.”

In Chapter 4, she goes onto say: “The most compelling stories get others to join and add their sense of positive possibilities. After all, the stories of life, of institutions, and of communities are ongoing. That’s why entrepreneurial leaders should learn to revise the unproductive stories and create new narratives that inspire people to join them in innovation and transformation. That’s why advanced leaders must find and tell the right stories to gain support for their grand vision of change.” (Page 156)
